From The Red Sox to The L.A. Dodgers

In 2004 and 2007 the Boston Red Sox won the World Series. Manny Ramirez was part on the roster for both of those seasons. But as most of you sports fanatics know, the relationship between Ramirez and the Red Sox has been a little shaky lately. But that relationship seems to be over. A baseball source has confirmed Ramirez has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jason Bay is going to Boston as part of the deal, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reported. And the Pittsburgh Pirates get four minor leaguers as part of the three-way deal. Third baseman Andy LaRoche and right-handed pitcher Bryan Morris will go to the Pirates from the Dodgers. Outfielder Brandon Moss and right-handed pitcher Craig Hansen will leave the Red Sox orgianization for Pittsburgh, ESPN.com has learned.

The Air is Finally Clearing Up in Beijing for the Olympics

The polluted skies over the city to host the 2008 Olympics has been one of the biggest worries for Olympics organizers. The concerns prompted Beijing officials to issue drastic measures earlier this month. This included pulling half the city's 3.3 million vehicles off the roads, halting most construction and closing some factories in the capital and surrounding provinces. As a result, Beijing's pollution levels dropped to less than half on Wednesday from the previous day's, the lowest reading since authorities began pulling cars off the road and shutting down factories to address athletes' concerns about air quality ahead of the Olympic Games. A cooling wind and some rain helped sweep away pollutants and gave Beijing residents a respite from the sultry heat and humidity that had cloaked the city for days.

Renaldo Balkman to Leave The Nicks For The Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets have acquired forward Renaldo Balkman from the New York Knicks in exchange for guard Taurean Green, forward Bobby Jones and a second-round draft pick in 2010. The Nuggets also get cash in the deal, announced Monday by Mark Warkentien, Denver's vice president of basketball operations. The 6-foot-8 Balkman averaged 3.4 points and 3.3 rebounds in 65 games for the Knicks last season. He has averaged 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in two seasons with the Knicks, shooting .499 from the field. Green averaged 1.1 points in nine appearances with Denver last season. Jones averaged 3.4 points and 1.5 rebounds in two stints with the Nuggets during the 2007-08 season. Was this a smart choice for the Nuggets to give up guard Taurean Green, forward Bobby Jones and a second-round draft pick in 2010 for forward Renaldo Balkman? We'll know when the season starts up to see if he lets the Nuggets down, hopefully not.

Braylon Edwards over Steve Smith

Braylon Edwareds emerged as one of the best WR's in the NFL last year. Catching 80+ balls with close to 1300 reception yards and grabbing the second most TD's in the whole league behind superstar WR Randy Moss, Edwards emerged as a solid fantasy pick.

This year, Edwards is ranked by yahoo and espn experts in their mock drafts as pick number 15. Last year, Edwards wasn't even in the top 75 picks. The Derek Anderson - Braylon Edwards connection is one of the most lethal connections in the NFL but some people still say the Jake Delhomme - Steve Smith connection is stronger. They say that Steve Smith is the better pick, and say that with the addition of Delhomme, the Carolina Panther's passing game is one of the best in the NFL.

But here is why Braylon Edwards is the better pick over Steve Smith this year: Steve Smith proved to be wildly inconsistent last year and he had nagging injuries. On top of that, his favorite QB Jake Delhomme was also injured for the entire season last year. And you compare that to Braylon Edwards: he is young, has a big body so he is an exceptional target in the end zone, has a very talented QB who is only going to get better and his teams' offensive line just got better so the only way for Edwards to go, is up. Edwards is the safer, more valuable pick.

Delgado Puts The Mets in the Lead

Carlos Delgado hit a tiebreaking, two-run double in the eighth inning and Oliver Perez stifled the Phillies again, helping the Mets earn a 3-1 victory Thursday that gave them sole possession of first place in the NL East. The Mets took two of three in the series after blowing a three-run lead in the ninth inning of the opener, putting them alone in first place for the first time since April 19. Eric Bruntlett, subbing for a tardy Jimmy Rollins, tied a season high with three hits for the Phillies, who rallied for an 8-6 win Tuesday night but struggled to score after that. Philadelphia has lost four of five and will host Atlanta in the opener of a three-game series Friday night. "I'm very proud of the way this team bounced back after that game the other night," said Jerry Manuel manager of the Mets, who has managed New York to a 21-12 record since Willie Randolph was fired last month. "We've been resilient for a long period of time."

Gholston's Contract With NY Jets

The mighty New York Jets have reached a five-year contract agreement with first-round draft pick Vernon Gholston that includes $21 million in guarantees, culminating negotiations that continued into the early morning hours. The linebacker's deal could max out at $50 million if he reaches all of his performance clauses. If the No. 6 pick does not, the deal would still be worth $32.5 million, which is still a huge amount. Negotiations lasted until 4:30 a.m. ET on Friday morning. Once a deal was agreed to, Gholston went to the Jets' offices to sign the contract in order to be on the practice field later in the day. "A contract like his, you might have to triple check or quadruple check," Mangini said with a smile. We bet he will be smiling with dollar signs in his eyes for a long time.

For A-Rod, all publicity is good publicity

Alex Rodriguez has finally hit on the formula for success: get it on with Madonna. The tabloid media are acting as if A-Rod has something to be ashamed of, but they've got it all wrong. Even if there is a sex tape of him and Madonna, it's not going to hurt him. That's because you never lose by being seen coming out of Madonna's apartment. For people in the entertainment industry, it's the equivalent of a parish priest having a lengthy private audience with the Pope. When you come out, your stock goes up. Jose Canseco was a Popeye-esque slugger until paparazzi on the Madonna beat spotted him exiting chez Femme Materiel. Dennis Rodman was a punk who died his hair until Madonna asked him to come up and see her sometime. And now it's A-Rod who's collecting the benefits.

What Are The Saints Thinking?

There’s little doubt that the New York Giants are better off without Jeremy Shockey – great talent, awful team player – but what are the New Orleans Saints thinking? They reportedly gave up a second- and a fifth-round draft pick to obtain Shockey, a tight end who doesn’t like to block. That’s almost like getting a safety who is only willing to make interceptions. The Saints are a team on the rise. They stumbled last season in going 7-9, but under head coach Sean Payton they’re likely to return to the top of the NFC South. The competition in the division from the Panthers, Buccaneers and Falcons is not too daunting. And who knows? Maybe Reggie Bush will do something this year more productive than posing with Kim Kardashian. Tight ends aren’t as plentiful as running backs. But a serviceable tight end is always available. The Saints are not only wasting two valuable draft picks on a loudmouth who thinks “me first,” he also happens to have six seasons of NFL wear and tear on him and is coming off a broken leg.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have once again pulled into a first-place tie in the NL West. The defending NL champion Colorado Rockies are not the other team in first, but they are suddenly back in the division race. The Dodgers again try to move alone atop the division for the first time since the first week of the season when they open a three-game series against the surging Rockies Monday at Coors Field. Los Angeles (48-50) is back in a tie with Arizona after rallying for five runs in the ninth inning in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks. Matt Kemp doubled in the tying run and Andre Ethier hit a go-ahead triple for the Dodgers, who have not been alone in first place since they were 3-1 on April 4. ''That was a huge win,'' Los Angeles manager Joe Torre said. ''It was nice to be able to steal that one.''
